If you've taken even the slightest interest in cinema this past summer, you might've heard of a small indie superhero project called Spider-Man: Brand New Day. After a disappointing 2025 for the MCU, which included three underperformances at the box office, Tom Holland's Friendly Neighborhood Spidey was back in the driver's seat on the last stop before Avengers: Doomsday. But even the most optimistic of predictions for Brand New Day couldn't have quite expected just how all-conquering this so-called "best Spidey adventure in 20 years" would be.
Brand New Day's triumph was written in the stars from the very beginning of its box office run. By earning the biggest opening weekend for any movie ever on domestic screens, quickly followed by becoming the second-fastest film to ever hit $1 billion, Brand New Day was destined to break numerous records. The most impressive of these records came just before the film started losing its spot at the top of the box office charts, as it overtook Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing film of all time domestically.
Although Brand New Day has now made the transition to the small screen as it tops the iTunes charts for 38 days, its influence is still felt across various mediums and platforms. For example, at the time of writing, Holland's video game adaptation Uncharted is one of the ten most-watched movies on HBO Max in the world. Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Antonio Banderas, and Tati Gabrielle, in her feature film debut, join Holland in the Ruben Fleischer-directed Uncharted, which scored a strong $400 million box office haul back in 2022, against a $120 million budget.

Alongside his Brand New Day castmates Zendaya and Jon Bernthal, Holland appeared in not one but two of the biggest movies of the year so far. Released alongside the latest MCU movie, Christopher Nolan's historical epic The Odyssey featured a typically stacked cast for one of the director's big-budget projects — including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and many more. The film sailed to a box office haul of more than $1.7 billion and still has a presence on the big screen, being shown in 330 locations domestically last weekend.
