For more than two decades, Viggo Mortensen's version of Aragorn has been virtually inseparable from the character himself, with Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy delivering one of the most iconic performances in fantasy history. From his mysterious introduction as Strider in The Fellowship of the Ring to his eventual coronation as King of Gondor, Mortensen brought Tolkien's legendary hero to life in a way that few actors could ever hope to replicate.

Aragorn's rugged appearance and commanding yet subdued presence have become defining characteristics of the hero, making it nearly impossible to imagine anyone else in the role. Even longtime readers of Tolkien's original books have come to associate Aragorn with Mortensen's unforgettable performance.

Now, however, The Lord of the Rings has officially unveiled a completely unexpected new look for Aragorn, offering fans a dramatically different interpretation of one of Middle-earth's most beloved characters.

Asmus Collectible Toys has given Aragorn a radically different appearance as part of its The Lord of the Rings QBitz collection, transforming the future King of Gondor into a miniature, cartoon-inspired warrior. The figure retains his familiar long dark hair, stubble, green ranger clothing, and sword, but imagines Viggo Mortensen with an oversized head, enormous eyes, and a tiny body in signature QBitz style. It's definitely Aragorn, even if the result is a far cry from his appearance in Peter Jackson's trilogy.

Aragorn is shown brandishing his sword, wearing a dark cloak and layered ranger gear, and sporting a surprisingly fierce expression beneath his cartoonish features. The figure measures roughly four inches (10 cm) tall, and is made from PVC and ABS plastic and is partially adjustable, allowing for some differnt poses.

Aragorn is only one character in the first wave of QBitz collectibles, with the official $120 Series 1 package including five characters in total:

Each figure comes in an individual box, complete with a display base and accessories where appropriate. The figures have roughly "two to four points of articulation," while Lurtz receives the unusual addition of movable eyeballs. The lineup brings together members of the Fellowship, an important ally, and two of their most recognizable enemies.

The five-figure set is currently listed for preorder on Asmus Toys' official website, with a limit of three sets per customer. Buyers are asked to pay a nonrefundable $20 deposit to reserve a set, followed by the remaining $100 when the company sends a notification.

Although the collection was first advertised several years ago, it remains listed for preorder without an updated shipping date. Nevertheless, it's an unexpected contrast with the rugged, serious Aragorn that Lord of the Rings enthusiasts know so well, giving longtime fans a completely different interpretation of Middle-earth's legendary hero.
