An alien returns to Earth with a dangerous secret in Netflix's Allen trailer.

The upcoming science-fiction movie sees Petey (T.J. Power) struggling with adulthood 20 years after his childhood friend, an alien named Allen, disappeared without a trace. Now, the titular alien is suddenly back on Earth, which initially is a dream come true for Petey, until he realizes that Allen has a secret that could change the entire world.

Netflix has now released a trailer for Allen, which opens with adult Petey sending a signal via satellite in the hopes that Allen will return to Earth. He then sadly rewatches tapes featuring his childhood adventures with the alien, and when his family asks why he can't grow up, Petey says, "Why? The best thing that ever happened to me already happened." When he screams, "Why won't you come back?" up at the sky, though, Allen does finally return in a glowing spaceship. Check out the trailer below:

From playing amusement park games to eating junk food, their reunion first seems lighthearted and wholesome, but the footage and music quickly turn more sinister when Petey collapses. This is followed by a scream erupting as blinding white light fills the sky, the alien saying, "Allen ruin Peedee's life," photos of the two friends burning, and Petey asking, "How could you do this to me?"

While Allen's secret has yet to be revealed, the premise of a human's life-changing alien friend from childhood returning to Earth sounds like a hypothetical sequel to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Steven Spielberg never made an E.T. sequel, but Allen almost feels like it could be the story of Elliot struggling to grow up and reuniting with the beloved alien 20 years later.

If the dangerous secret is manipulating Petey and making way for an alien invasion of Earth, the comparison may not be as applicable, as the kind E.T. presumably would not do that. The trailer indicates that it will be a secret this devastating and consequential, but it could be something else entirely and an outcome that is not as nefarious.

Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order.

Despite the parallels to E.T., neither Spielberg nor Amblin have any involvement in Allen. The film is produced by Ludo Studio, the production company best known for Bluey and its many episodes. Allen is an example of how they do live-action work in addition to animation. Ludo is also an Australian company, and the movie is set in Queensland, Australia.

As for Allen's design, he looks nothing like E.T. and is more reminiscent of Paul from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's 2011 movie of the same name, along with having some visual similarities to the non-alien character Dobby the house-elf from the Harry Potter movies.

In addition to Power playing Petey, the cast features Charlotte Nicdao as Carly, Emily Barclay as Sarah, Benedict Hardie as Rory, and Josh Helman as Jaden. Allen was co-directed by Jeffrey Walker and Daley Pearson, the latter of whom wrote the screenplay alongside Sophie Miller.
