CMAT has joined forces with Elton John for a reworked version of ‘Step Into Christmas’ – you can listen to it below.

The ‘Euro-Country’ artist and the music icon have put a fresh spin on the latter’s 1973 festive single for this year’s ‘Amazon Music Original’ holiday song.

“I’ve loved CMAT since I first heard her and saw her videos years ago,” said Sir Elton. “She has this incredible personality, and a wicked sense of humour. You can tell she has Rock ‘N’ Roll, Country and Americana at the heart of what she does – we’re kindred spirits in so many ways.

“And that’s why I was so thrilled with the idea of us collaborating on ‘Step Into Christmas’. She’s done an amazing job.”

CMAT commented: “When I listen to the music of Elton John, I am seven-years-old in the back of my mam’s car. It doesn’t matter how old or famous I become – whenever I listen to Elton John I will always be seven years in the back of my mam’s car.

“Reconciling this feeling with the reality of getting to work with the man in question has been confusing, to say the least, but the greatest joy of my life. Christmas is my absolute favourite thing in the world, second maybe only to Elton John.”

She concluded: “I would like to invite the whole world to step into Christmas with us and make your yuletide dreams come true.”

CMAT and Sir Elton’s collab retains the lively rock rhythm and joyful singalong chorus, while boasting the Irish singer-songwriter’s distinctly vibrant vocals along with new musical elements.

John had teased the team-up on social media yesterday (Wednesday November 4), sharing a clip of a CMAT doll sitting atop a Christmas tree. “Stepping into Christmas with a special person this year…any guesses?” he wrote in the caption.

It came after CMAT dressed up as the legendary musician for Halloween, calling herself “RocketMAT”. The man himself expressed his approval of the costume on Instagram, writing: “Rocket Girl .” CMAT also posted a reel showing her transformation.

CMAT and John’s new Amazon Music Original song is the latest release to join a growing list of holiday tracks released exclusively on Amazon Music, following last year’s huge success from Kylie Minogue with ‘XMAS’ – which made history as it hit Number One in the UK.

Christmas singles for 2026 already include Sam Fender’s cover of The Rolling Stones’ ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want‘ for the John Lewis festive and Olivia Rodrigo‘s ‘Take Me Home (4 Christmas)’, which drops tomorrow (Friday November 6).

The original version of ‘Step Into Christmas’ peaked at Number 24 on the UK Singles Chart in January 1974. Last year, it reached a new high of Number Seven over the festive period – more than five decades on from its initial release (via Official Charts).

CMAT appeared as a guest on John’s Apple Music radio show, Rocket Hour, back in 2024. Here, the icon praised her as a “vibrant, wonderful woman” who was “kicking ass”.

In 2021, Elton John collaborated with Ed Sheeran on the single ‘Merry Christmas’. The former also starred in the John Lewis Christmas advert in 2018.

Earlier this year, CMAT took home the Best Album award for ‘Euro-Country’ at the Ivors 2026. She said over the summer that she would not be performing live in 2027 due to “literally losing [her] mind” after touring non-stop for six years.
