All eyes this year are on December 18. On this date, the so-called 'Dunesday' will premiere, as both Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday make their big-screen debuts. With ticket sales already hugely impressive, forecasts for the pair's opening frame have their combined first weekend domestic haul at roughly $350 million. Prediction markets have given the double-feature a near-certain chance of outperforming the debut haul of its most appropriate modern comparison, 2023's Barbenheimer.
With just over two months to go until 'Dunesday,' fans will be looking for any way to get in the mood for the most exciting day in the theatrical calendar for many years. Never one to miss a trick, Netflix is about to drop a Toronto International Film Festival 2025 debutant that features not just a Dune: Part Three star but also a Doomsday favorite. The film in question is Sacrifice, an adventure comedy starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans that features the bonkers kidnapping of a film star by a radical group looking to sacrifice him to save the world.
Directed by Romain Gavras (Athena), this star-studded feature fared poorly during its TIFF debut, scoring just 36% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and being called "disappointing" and "tonally disjointed" by critics. Vincent Cassel, Salma Hayek Pinault, John Malkovich, Sam Richardson, Ambika Mod, Charli XCX, and Yung Lean also feature in the film, which is co-written by director Gavras and Pulitzer Prize finalist Will Arbery. You can catch Dune: Part Three's Taylor-Joy and Avengers: Doomsday's Evans in Sacrifice when it lands on Netflix on October 16.
Your answers point to the iconic sci-fi hero who shares your instincts, your values, and your particular way of facing the impossible.
You carry a weight most people would crumble under — the knowledge of what you're capable of, and the burden of what you might have to become.
You lead with instinct, warmth, and an absolute refusal to accept a no-win scenario — because you've always believed there's a third option nobody else has thought of yet.
You are the kind of person who holds the line when everyone else is losing faith — not because you're fearless, but because giving up simply isn't something you're capable of.
You are not reckless, not grandiose, and not particularly interested in being anyone's hero — you just refuse to stop when it matters.
You have been through fire that would break most people — and what came out the other side is something the world underestimates at its peril.
Taylor-Joy and Evans aren't the only stars of the upcoming 'Dunesday' to take over Netflix this month. Currently, the most-watched series on the platform worldwide, East of Eden stars the brilliant Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, before she joins the cast of not just Dune: Part Three but also Doomsday. An adaptation of John Steinbeck's celebrated 1952 family saga, this new Netflix epic is already a smash hit and has earned rave reviews.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans' Sacrifice is officially landing on Netflix on October 16, 2026. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for all the latest updates from the biggest movies.
