Anne Hathaway has featured in more than $2.6 billion worth of movies at the box office this year. In the busiest twelve months of her successful career, Hathaway is not only expecting her third child with her husband, Adam Shulman, but she has also featured in theaters almost every month this year. Most recently, Hathaway led the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation, Verity, following the box office hits It Ends with Us, Regretting You, and Reminders of Him.
Also starring Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, Verity followed in the footsteps of its aforementioned predecessors by scoring a strong box office haul, turning a reported $40 million budget into $172 million worldwide. It also reflected previous Hoover adaptations in its critical reception, earning pretty scathing reviews and being accused of being "afraid to go too campy, creepy, or even overtly erotic with its visual styling and script choices," according to a review for Collider by Carly Lane. With Verity Hathaway's fifth film of the year, her first feels like much longer ago than seven months.
Released in a limited capacity in April, Mother Mary opened Hathaway's 2026 account at the box office, albeit with just $3 million at the box office against a $20 million budget. David Lowery's psychological drama, which follows Hathaway's popstar as she is forced to confront the demons of her past, scored mixed reviews from critics, with a 69% average score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite also featuring Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, FKA Twigs, and more, the film was an underperformer both critically and commercially — But now it's bouncing back. At the time of writing, Mother Mary is one of the ten most-watched movies on HBO Max in the world.
Of all her big-screen projects this year, none has been bigger for Hathaway than portraying Penelope in Christopher Nolan's historical epic The Odyssey. The ambitious movie, which scored a global box office haul of $1.8 billion, is predicted to earn numerous nominations for next year's Oscars, with many predicting a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Hathaway, who undeniably stole several scenes as the deeply loyal and grieving queen.
