In the last few years, Apple TV has established itself as one of the strongest platforms for original sci-fi programming. One of the first Apple TV sci-fi shows that comes to mind is Severance, which is directed and produced by comedy icon Ben Stiller. After Season 2 of the hit series aired last year, there’s still no return date for Season 3 yet, but now that cameras are rolling, there’s hope that it will be back before the end of 2027. The only Apple TV sci-fi show to ever earn more views than Severance is Pluribus, which was written and created for TV by Vince Gilligan. If Gilligan’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s also the creator of Breaking Bad, which is widely hailed as one of the greatest TV shows ever made.

Every year, Apple TV finds a way to introduce a new sci-fi show that scratches an itch most fans didn’t even know they had. In 2025, this show was Murderbot, the hard sci-fi series starring Alexander Skarsgård, brother of Bill Skarsgård and son of Stellan Skarsgård. Murderbot Season 1 aired throughout the early summer months of 2025, and Apple TV made the wise decision to renew the show for Season 2 after it spent weeks at the top of watchlists. It’s been well over a year since a new episode of Murderbot was released, but the show has maintained its status as one of the most-watched sci-fi shows on Apple TV this year. The series is on such an impressive run after all this time that it’s been in the top 10 in at least one country for over 100 days now.

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You're a systems thinker who can't help but notice the seams in things.

The wasteland doesn't reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That's you.

You'd survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn't have it any other way.

Murderbot Season 1 is based on the sci-fi novella, All Systems Red, which was written by Martha Wells. Season 2 will be based on Artificial Condition. Season 1 is largely viewed as a mostly faithful adaptation of the book, but Season 2 is expected to be a bit looser, with elements of other novels also used. This isn’t inherently a bad thing, though it is fair for lovers of the book to be apprehensive about the creators taking a big step to make the show their own. Over 20 new actors joined the cast of Murderbot Season 2, which is now in production as of August 2026, so the show will likely return in the second half of next year.
